Being a fisher of men is a little more intense than in Sunday School where Christian artist Reconcile comes from.
Born Ronald Stephen Lillard, Jr., Reconcile has been an artist looking to inspire change in the youth culture through Christian hip hop. His type of Christian Hip Hop may not seem so "Christian" to the much older audience. Although it is positive, it is raw... very raw! He raps about what he sees, gangs, drugs, violence, poverty, police brutality...and the list goes on. His message is that there is a way out - JESUS!!! Following Jesus isn’t always the easiest thing in the world to do. As Reconcile says in the music video, “I never told you it was gonna be easy”. In his song called "Catching Bodies," he uses the graphic "illustration" of a carjacking and a robbery at gunpoint to explain the modern day version of saving souls.
Just watching the video from a distance one could not decipher between today's gangsta rap music and his Christian message. The beat is really gritty, the extras in the video are really from the streets but the message is really positive. Hard to understand? His point, to get on the level and reach the younger audience that sees those images from day to day. He uses no curse words but, a really street sound to get his message across.
The end of the video is perhaps the most intriguing part. A man is robbed and shot at gunpoint. As his body falls lifelessly into the streets, he is seen falling backwards into a baptism pool. Thus having his soul saved.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Matthew 4: 19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people."
