Kanye West's first Faith-Based Grammy Nomination

America’s most controversial rapper/presidential nominee, Kanye West, announced as a Grammy Nominee for “Best Contemporary Christian Music Album” with his debut as a Christian Hip Hop album ‘Jesus is King’. ‘Jesus is King’ is Kanye’s ninth studio album. Both religious and secular fan groups publicly shared mixed feelings about the rapper releasing a faith-based album. When the record came out in October 2019, some labeled it a publicity stunt while others believed he truly underwent a heart transformation. Despite the criticism, ‘Jesus is King’ opened at number one on the Billboard 200. This gave West his ninth consecutive album to debut atop the chart, tying him with a record held by fellow rapper Eminem. On the US charts, the album became the first to ever top the Billboard 200, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Top Rap Albums, Top Christian Albums,

and Top Gospel Albums at the same time. Last year Ye' won a Grammy (or three) was back in 2012, but the ‘Jesus Walks’ artist has a total of 21 wins and 70 nominations. This is his first nomination in a “Christian/Gospel” category.
