Kanye Rocks the Gospel Billboard Awards
Shocked Not Surprised
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BMA) aired last night! The show presented some interesting yet not surprising results regarding the Gospel awards. However, it is important to note that the Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on album and digital songs sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring, and social engagement from mid-Spring 2020 to mid-Spring 2021.
With that in mind, Kanye West winning 2 out of 3 Gospel Billboard Awards, Top Artist and Top Song, is not as hard to understand. West is still following his lead from last year of four wins in the Gospel and Christian categories. More recently known for his Gospel music and crossover approach, Kanye West has opened the door to Jesus for many people worldwide.
Unconventional Yet Impactful
From Jesus is King to the Sunday Services, Kanye West has found a way to share the Gospel to a larger audience than most strictly Gospel artists have been able to. This is shown through the results of the BMAs. It may appear uncommon considering West's artistic history and occasional Twitter rants, but his music has caused a stir and created movement.
