GoBU Infuses Poetry into Radio

Houston-based Online CHH Radio Station hosts Poetry Show

Taking a break from the music, GoBU.tv, an online Christian Hip Hop station based in Houston hosts a Poetry Show, Royal Rhymes! Starting at the beginning of 2021, GoBU tapped one of their team members, Sleight the Poet, to hosts a weekly show highlighting local and national poets and their work.

Each week, Sleight interviews a poet about their work and a specific poem. They learn about the artist themselves and get a chance to hear the reasons why the featured poem was written. The poems cover a range of topics from mental health to relationships to church hurt.

Royal Rhymes began as most things do, an idea. The host, Sleight, a poet and spoken word artist, thought of the idea about a year ago while working with the online station. Before he could even bring it up with GoBU's owner, she brought the idea up with him. From that point forward, they knew the show was a God idea and have ran with it.

Six months later, Royal Rhymes has become a very popular segment on GoBU and continues to grow. Even though poetry is not new, spoken word is becoming increasingly popular. Royal Rhymes has created a lane for Christian artists to share their gifts in a new way every Thursday at 4PM CST. Check out past episodes here
