Christians Are Mad Because A Black Woman Is Playing God
Christians leaders are going through it right now. They are in a state of turmoil because a woman, a black woman, Octavia Spencer( The Help, Hidden Figures) has been cast to play God in the upcoming film, The Shack.
In an interview with Christian News Network Joe Schimmel, pastor of Blessed Hope Chapel in Simi Valley, California criticizes Octavia’s role saying
"Young’s pretentious caricature of God as a heavy set, cushy, non-judgmental, African American woman called ‘Papa’ (who resembles the New Agey Oprah Winfrey far more than the one true God revealed through the Lord Jesus Christ—Hebrews 1:1-3), and his depiction of the Holy Spirit as a frail Asian woman with the Hindu name, Sarayu, lends itself to a dangerous and false image of God and idolatry,"
The Shack is based on the book The Shack by William P Young which is about Mack Phillips, a who starts to question his beliefs due suffering from both depression and a family tragedy. He receives a letter summing him to Oregon and encountering many strangers led by a woman named Papa.
