Kanye West "This Is A Gospel Album"
Pictures have circulated all over twitter and instagram with the All-Star Roster Kanye has drafted to assist in master minding his new upcoming LP. Currently untitled the studio, in which the LP formerly known as "So Help Me God," "SWISH," and "WAVES", has see the likes of Kirk Franklin, gospel singer Crystal Lewis, Anthony Evans and several gospel artists while samples of Pastor T.L. Barrett's 2012 gospel song "Father Stretch My Hands" has been in rotation. Lending support to this "gospel album" idea is the tracklist that West tweeted last month, which included a song titled “Father Stretch My Hands.”
In an interview on Thursday Kanye West decided to give some clarity to why he thinks his upcoming, untitled LP is a gospel album. Radio host Big Boy asked him what listeners should expect from his album, West expounded on his surprising claim saying “Ultra-light beams. I’m trying to open up hearts, minds. When I was sitting in the studio with Kirk [Franklin] and we were just going through it … I said, ‘This is a gospel album — with a whole lot of cursing on it, but it’s still a gospel album,’” West laughed. “It was the gospel according to Ye. It’s not exactly what happened in the Bible, but it’s a story of this idea of Mary Magdalene becoming Mary.” Obviously this doesn't classify the album as gospel but with his imprint and influence all over the culture we will all attend the "Church of Yezzus" to see what he has to say.
