Mariah Alina
Radio Broadcasting & Film Critic
Mariah Alina is a production and radio intern for A Better Broadcasting and Media. She was born on March 25th in Houston, TX. Mariah graduated with an associate degree in audio engineering from MediaTech Institute. There she learned how to record, mix, and produce music and live sound venues.
With her newly developed skills she has put them to use for her own podcast show, The Blank Space Podcast. There she talks about her own interests in movies, television, and comic books by giving a new perspective to an industry that forgets to include many minorities like herself.
As a fellow Houstonian, she understands what it means to “BE SOMEONE”. She works hard every day to achieve her dreams of becoming a successful radio personality so that she becomes that someone she can be proud of.

Tiron Braud
Music Production Producing
Tiron is a leader adept at communicating company mission and directives. Braud is knowledgeable in the area of audio signal processing and worked on producing sound for live shows as well as studio recordings.
Tiron is passionate about achieving technical excellence with each project. His goal is to seek to find new techniques and approaches for creating unique sounds that clients want while making each production the best it can be.
Keiyah Johnson

My name is Keiyah Johnson and I am 22 years old. I recently graduated from Texas State University where I studied Mass Communication/Electronic Media with a minor in Psychology. I hope to work at a radio station as an on-air personality before transitioning to television news. My interests are music, entertainment news and popular culture.
Kaylon Bendaw
Sports and Entertainment Radio Broadcasting
Kaylon Bendaw is a production and radio intern at A Better Broadcasting and Media. Bendaw is a mass communication major with an interest in Multi-platform journalism at Sam Houston State University. Kaylon is a native of Dallas, Texas. His goal is to do radio, host his own radio show one day on a major Hip Hop & R&B station. His other interests are in sports radio.
Essence Murphy
Entertainment Radio Broadcasting
From an early age, Essence has always had an interest in media in all forms. She graduated from Jack Yates Senior High School’s School of Communication in 2013 with honors. Essence went on to achieve her associate degree in Media Arts from Houston Community College in 2017.
She is currently a junior and attends Texas Southern University, majoring in Communications with a focus in Radio, TV, and Film. Throughout the years, Essence has been involved in a numerous of projects around the city of Houston. She has worked as a stylist and back of the house manager for The Project Houston Fashion Show from 2015 through 2018.
She then went on to intern for the J. Mulan Agency where she did event coordinating and talent booking. Essence is currently interning as the radio show producer/programmer for 92KELZ. After graduation, Essence aspires to become a radio/tv personality.
Januel Burton

Januel who goes by the pen name January., is a native of New Orleans, LA. She was raised in Houston, TX. Januel is the middle of 3 children and also the mom of a golden doodle named Cinco. She is a Senior Broadcast Journalism major at Texas Southern University. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in freelance writing and digital content creation.
She currently writes a dating and relationship blog called Jay’s Takeout (www.jaystakeout.com) which discusses her outings with men and her personal and business relations. When she is not putting pen to paper, Januel is working out at 24 Hour Fitness, practicing yoga and meditation, catching up on sports highlights or binge watching a new TV series with a bed full of the latest snacks. She is also an experienced solo traveler who loves exploring new cities in search of new foods and experiences to try.
Justin Lee

I’m Justin Lee, I’m 20 years old and from Houston, Texas. My main interests are basketball, music, and traveling. I attended Texas State University from 2016 to 2017. After, I moved back to Houston and transferred to HCC. I will be attending U of H to get a degree in Journalism & Communications. My goals are to one day become an analyst on ESPN or TNT for the NBA or have my very own podcast with my friends where we speak on several pop culture and sports topics. Fun fact – I can sing.
Stephen Tate
Entertainment News Journalist
STEPHEN TATE is currently a radio and production intern at A Better Broadcasting & Media in Houston, TX. Achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and a minor in Digital Journalism from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, he carries various skills in the career field including academic news writing, public speaking, video production and digital content creation. Being experienced with graphic design, he also does art focused freelance commission work in his free time. Stephen looks to begin a career in broadcast media with a focus in marketing and content creation. He is well-versed in social media/new media and keeping up with current events. Stephen’s interests span across all entertainment including film, music, television and radio. Having a substantial background in visual art, he aims to have this as a pivotal influence on the work in his course of interest.
