Jets trade QB Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers
Darnold traded 3 for 1 to Become a Panther
Earlier today, the New York Jets pulled a shocking move to most as they traded their starting quarterback, former 1st-Round 3rd Overall pick, Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for 3 draft picks.
The draft picks consist of a 6th rounder in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft along with a second and fourth round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Sam Darnold’s time with the Jets could very well be described as a failure, however, most people would combat that by stating he was set for failure at start.
Coming into the Jets organization, they had just hired one of the worst complacent coaches in Adam Gase who somehow got the job after being fired by the Dolphins where he was very lackluster as well. Upon having a bad coach, Darnold was never given pieces such as a Pat Mahomes who walked into the league with an All-Pro Tight End in Travis Kelce and a future All-Pro in Tyreek Hill.
To add insult to injury, Darnold’s best receiver had left last year to the team he’ll be playing for now, Carolina. Robby Anderson signed with the Carolina Panthers in last year’s free agency. Maybe they were meant to be together?
Anderson's stats with Darnold are pretty impressive. When both last played together; the duo had 88 completions, 88.5 completion percentage, 1,341 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 21 completions of 20+ yards. Maybe this move to the Panthers is exactly what Darnold needs to get back on track.
With head coach Matt Rhule and guru offensive coordinator Joe Brady running the ship, Darnold could possibly live up to his 3rd overall pick stats.
